For Ficino, the human soul was never separate from the cosmos. It occupied a living middle ground between matter and the divine, responding to the hidden harmonies that linked the visible world to a greater order. Philosophy, religion, medicine, astrology, music, and natural magic therefore belonged, in his thought, to a single field of inquiry: how the soul might recover its harmony with the universe.
